Google unveils Android tablets with Google Play for Education

Google has announced the launch of Android tablets with Google Play for Education on Wednesday in the United States. Nexus 7 is the first tablet to arrive with Google Play for Education built-in and it is now available directly to schools, so there is no open-market availability at this point.Nexus 7 with Google Play for Education

Google has also revealed that two more tablets ASUS Transformer Pad (a 10” tablet) and the HP Slate 8 Pro (an 8” tablet) will be available next year with Google Play for Education.

“Google Play for Education is an extension of Google Play designed for schools. Here educators can discover apps approved by teachers for teachers, as well as educational videos and a collection of classic books for their classroom. Teachers can search for approved apps by grade, subject and standard, including Common Core, pay using a purchase order, and deploy the content to students instantly,” Google noted in a blog post.

Pricing:  Nexus 7 – $259, Asus Transformer Pad – $279, both prices include Management, support, & Google Play for Education cost. There is no word on HP Slate 8 Pro price at this point.

Like Android, I am sure you will have some affinity with Chrome as well, so some Chrome OS action for you today. Google has finally announced the first netbooks based on Chrome OS fromSamsung and Acer.
These so-called Chromebooks will be available online starting June 15 in U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Spain. Don’t live in these countries, don’t worry, Google has said the launch will follow soon in other countries too.
The Samsung Chromebook will cost USD 429 for the Wi-Fi only version and USD 499 for the 3G version. Acer’s Wi-Fi only Chromebook will cost USD 349.
So, this was for normal consumers, Google is also releasing these for Education and Enterprise markets as well. More about these versions here.

Samsung Mobile India official twitter account has started giving users the time-frame for Android 2.3 update for Galaxy S.  According to the company, the update will reach by the end of this month, and they will soon declare  other details. It is surely good news for all the Galaxy S owners in India, who are patiently waiting for the update.

On the other hand, those of you who went for Samsung Galaxy SL, the wait can be longer but they will indeed get Gingerbread. In a  separate tweet company said that Android 2.3 update will be delivered to Galaxy SL sometime in the first half of July.

HTC’s latest flagship Android smartphone Sensation has been priced in UK. Online retailer Play.com, which is now taking preorders for the device, has put the sim-free version for £499.99. Retailer has planned to ship it starting June 30.
This is the first pricing for HTC Sensation and it is pretty much in line with other modern smartphones. On the specs end, Sensation does have some sensation features. It will come with Android 2.3 with HTC Sense 3.0, 1.2 GHz Dual Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch qHD Super-LCD and 8MP camera with front cam.

AT&T to launch Cisco Cius Android tablet this fall


cisu AT&T to launch Cisco Cius Android tablet this fallAT&T has announced that it would launch the Cisco Cius tablet this fall for its business customers. Telecom operator however did not announce the pricing details.
Earlier, Verizon had also announced that it will start selling Cius this spring.  Cius, which runs on Android 2.2, is targeted to enterprise market.
The tablet can be plugged into a docking device that includes a handset and speaker-phone capabilities. Other features of Cius include 32GB Internal memory, SD card slot, HDMI out port and a mini-USB port. It also boasts HD Video (720p) and will support Bluetooth.
